September 2008
26th September 2008 - Desktop "wallpaper" images available for free download
I have been asked on several occasions to make photographs available for use as computer desktop pictures or "wallpaper". In response I have created a page containing several images that you are free to download and use for desktop pictures. These are supplied free of charge, but do have a small copyright panel in the bottom right hand corner. Please help yourself, but please also respect the copyright and do not use for any other purpose.
18th September 2008 - Canon announce 5D Mark II
As regular readers to this site will know I use Canon cameras and lenses and whilst I like to think I'm much more interested in photography than equipment, I have to confess (regularly) that I'm just as much of a gear-head as anyone! So the announcement yesterday of the replacement for the now 3 year old EOS 5D (a truly superb camera, much used and loved) was of great interest. Full details are available on many different sites including Canon, DPReview and others, but suffice to say the specification should make it a great upgrade. It is not really an equivalent to any other recent camera model (such as those from Nikon or Sony) and I believe shouldn't be compared - but inevitably it will be, and is. Me? I'll watch eagerly from the sidelines and look forward to seeing photographs taken with it, especially in low light conditions.
17th September 2008 - "Print of the Month" now available!
Each month I will be selecting one of my favourite photographs and making it available at a reduced price - but for one month only. The print will be available at a special price, at least 10% off the normal print price, for that month. At the end of the offer period the image will be moved to the main print galleries at its print price revert to the standard.
8th September 2008 - Shopping cart added to site
The Shopping cart functionality has at last been added to this site after many requests for an easier experience! The Fine Art Prints page now contains a number of the more popular images to which more will be added soon. Furthermore the new Stock image page provides details of the straightforward image licensing policy we have adopted.
Most images on this site are of course available as prints or stock images for various use - this is not restricted to those in the shop area. I will be gradually updating the whole site to make purchasing prints or images easier by adding a shopping cart icon
adjacent to each image. Following this will take you straight to the shopping area. Details of print sizes, papers, options and delivery can also be found here.
Please note that payment functionality is through PayPal; this will allow you to either use a credit card or your PayPal account.
7th September 2008 - Canon 1Ds Mark III article updated
My original user review of the 1Ds Mark III was written after a couple of months of using it - not long. I have just updated this article to bring it more up to date and give a better idea of why I think it is a superb camera. Read more...
6th September 2008 - Norway, the landscape
For me there are several challenges that make taking landscape photographs of Norway very different to parts of the world I know well. They are light, scale and being different. This describes some of my views on these and how I am trying to overcome these. I have a long way to go but working on it! Read more...
New Canon cameras?
The photographic forums are buzzing with rumours about a new full frame Canon DSLR to replace the EOS 5D. Whilst I like to think I'm far more interested in making photographs, I'm also a gear-head and fascinated by what new technological developments will help. After the recent Canon 50D announcements we have to presume that the next will be the long awaited 5D successor. Canon have just added a teaser to their website but I can just imagine people in the marketing team having a really good laugh at everyone's comments, rumours and speculation!
18/9/08 - the Canon teaser noted is now linked through to a rather interesting site explaining (in some marketing speak!) the new Canon range including the new EOS 5D.
