This is another view that clearly shows differences in the 60 years or so between the photographs. Today the plantation on the top slope of Back Tor is much thinner and less extensive, presumably the product of current forestry management techniques. Although indistinct in either photograph, Mam Tor has slipped in recent years and the road that rose from Castleton (to the left of this view) is now closed just below Mam Tor as it has slipped away. Surprisingly the dry stone walls on Lose Hill (in the foreground) are much the same today as they were in Poucher's day.
